Graduate Internship
EDL/CEQ 585 - Internship in School District/School Building Leadership (co-requisite EDL/CEQ 586) This course is a cooperatively guided leadership experience at the school district central office level and school building level, strategically designed to immerse candidates in educational experiences that support and rely upon the information and skills attained from courses taken in the combined certification program. A plan of leadership, administration and supervisory tasks must be submitted to the internship coordinator. The internship is conducted in schools and school districts over an extended period of time. Achievement will be determined against a stated list of competencies as assessed by the school district personnel and the SBU supervisor. Field experiences are structured so that candidates gain proficiency in all twelve NY State Leadership competencies. S/U Graded. This course is extended over 2 semesters. * Prerequisite: Completion of all foundation and required course work. Students may not enroll themselves in EDL/CEQ 585 and EDL/CEQ 586. The internship Seminar will provide a forum for sharing insights, understanding and developing collaborative problem-solving and decision-making skills. The purpose of the Internship Seminar is to facilitate the blending of practical field experience with academic learning. An introduction of major topics in sociolinguistics, including variation theory, language attitudes, language planning, language change, and pidgins and creoles. The cost of this course is $941.00 due by June 26th.

5. LIN 544 Literacy in the Content Areas

In-depth exploration of the theories of literacy and language development of native English speakers and students who are English language learners pre-school through grade 12. The development and assessment of literacy skills among children at various stages of learning development and across disciplines will be examined. Attention will also be given to children with special needs and the integration of technology in the development of literacy skills. The cost of this course is $941.00 due by June 26th.

6. TEACHER EVALUATOR RECERTIFICATION USING DANIELSON OBSERVATION METHOD Summer 2024

As mandated by APPR regulations, for all Administrators doing Teacher Evaluation, facilitated by Dr. Deb Deluca. Dr. Deluca works with many schools to develop inter-rater reliability and deeper understanding of the Danielson rubric for observation. This three (3) hour virtual workshop updates administrators who evaluate teachers and principals under the most recently passed legislation and State Education Department regulations. This is an annual requirement under the legislation. The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to review classroom videos in order to practice using the District rubrics for evaluating teacher observations. In addition, we will discuss collecting evidence, alignment with the rubric and providing feedback to teachers. 8:30 am-11:30 am

This online training is designed for lead evaluators who are required to be trained in the nine elements outlined by the New York State regulations regarding teacher evaluation. This course is conducted online with opportunities to participate in live video chats as well as live presentations. The training has eight modules which cover the required elements stipulated in the regulations. The modules will allow participants to view videos, review articles, post to a bulletin board and/or wiki as well as submit assignments. Completion of all of the required elements of this training will provide the participant evidence of training to submit to the appropriate authority in the participant's district for approval as a Lead Evaluator. 15. Science of Reading Micro-credential through SUNY New Paltz Summer 2024

SUNY New Paltz Science of Reading Microcredential (35 Hours) The completely asynchronous Science of Reading Fundamentals microcredential at SUNY New Paltz which has already served thousands of education professionals since launching in 2023.
